Biography Aristide Mayol

Detailed biography of Mayol was born in the south of France, in the town of Banul-Sure-Mer, in a family of hereditary vinogrates. He studied at a college in neighboring Perpignan, showing in young years a special interest in drawing and painting. In the year, he goes to Paris, where he enters the school of elegant arts and studies from Jerome, and then continues his education at the School of Decorative Arts with the painter of Kabanel.

In the beginning of the X, Majol meets the artists of the so-called Pont Avena group, which was headed by Gauguin, which has a certain influence on his early picturesque works. In those years, he was also fascinated by the work of Emil Bernard and Puvi de Shavannah. In the year, being very impressed by medieval weaning art and especially the Gobelov series “Lady with a unicorn” from the collection of the Kluni Museum, Mayol organizes in the bathhouse a workshop for the production of tapestries.

Here he himself painted cardboard, made a gamut of flowers, selected and painted the threads, as the ancient masters did. Local girls were tapalized, on one of whom Mayol married a year. He repeatedly portrayed his wife Clotilde in drawings, and then in sculptures. In the year, at the exhibition of Group Twenty in Brussels, Mayol represents his first tapestries-“Music” and “The Enchanted Garden”, which felt the influence of the artists of the Pont of the Avensky school and the Nabi group.

But painstaking work on small details in the manufacture of tapestries had a pernicious effect on the vision of the master. For about a year, he almost blinded and was in this state for about six months. The tapestries had to be abandoned.

Biography Aristide Mayol

During this period, Mayol, not used to sitting idle, turns to sculpture. It was in sculpture that he was destined to find his own unique style. Its favorite plastic theme is a naked female body, the rounded shapes and smooth bends of which, according to the master, are able to convey the fullness and beauty of the world - the mystery of the night, the winding course of the river, the weightless lightness of the airspace.

In the year, Ambruaz Vollar organizes the first personal exhibition of Mayol in his gallery and acquires several of his sculptures. In the year, Mayol first puts his works in the autumn salon. In the same year, he meets Count Harry Kessler, who becomes his patron. The sculptor has repeatedly noted that this acquaintance was the greatest luck in his life. Thanks to the financial support of the philanthropist Count Kessler in the years, Majol visited Greece, where works of archaic and early classics made a strong impression on him.

In the year, the sculptor, on order, is working on the creation of a monument to the socialist Louis-Ogyust Blanca, who eventually received the name “constrained force”. The image of a woman who is striving to break the bonds constraining her, personifies the life of a revolutionary, who spent many years in prison. In the year, Mayol begins work on the monument to Pole Cezann, creating a composition with a reclining female figure.

However, the inhabitants of the ex -by, the native city of Cezanne, the monument seemed too simplified. After a loud scandal in the press, he was installed in the Paris Garden of Tuileries. Over time, from X to M, the work of Mayol did not undergo any noticeable changes, and the female images invariably remained his main theme “il de France”, “Venus with a necklace”, “sorrow”.

In the year, in the life of Maiol, the young model Dina Verni appeared, who became his muse and served as the prototype of such late sculptures of the master as “river”, “air”, “mountain”. Verny posed for the last monumental statue of the sculptor, which was called "harmony" and which was never over. Mayol spent the last years of his life in his native bathhouse, continuing to engage not only in sculpture, but also with painting.

In the year, twenty sculptures of the master, transferred to the state Dina Verni, were installed in Paris in the garden of Tuileries.
